The Dodge Ram Eco Diesel Towing Ratings are out

2014-ram-1500

Dodge’s new Ram 1500 Eco Diesel has a clean-burning engine that outperforms in power and fuel efficiency.

The Ram Eco Diesel Engine

Paired with Ram’s exclusive TorqueFlite 8 Eight-Speed Transmission, the 3.0-liter Eco Diesel V-6 engine delivers the 420 lb-ft of torque and 240 horsepower, plus the great fuel economy that you would expect from a diesel-powered engine, but without spewing the high levels of greenhouse gases that have been so problematic with diesels in the past.

Diesel oxidation catalysts and particulate filters in the revolutionary Eco Diesel engine significantly reduce the pollutants that result from the burning of diesel fuel, making these engines compliant with emission standards in all 50 states.

The EcoDiesel Towing Rating

After building excitement about the introduction of a diesel-powered option for their popular Ram 1500 light-duty pickup, in July, Ram announced the EcoDiesel towing ratings:

“In a 2WD, two-door, long-bed configuration, the new Eco Diesel will tow up to 9,200 lbs. The new diesel engine approaches much larger displacement V-8 towing capability with a small but powerful 3.0-liter V-6 and best-in-class fuel efficiency of better than 25 mpg on the highway.”

The rating is important because it puts the towing capacity of this new engine in terms that anyone can understand. It isn’t obvious to people who are not familiar with mechanics that when considering towing capacity, torque, which measures the strength of an engine’s crankshaft rotation, is more important than horsepower.

The Eco Diesel rating is also important because it means that the engineers at Ram Trucks have figured out how to provide the serious muscle that you need to get things done in your life while increasing gas mileage and lowering CO2 emissions.

It means that, when you drive a Ram 1500 Eco Diesel, you will not only be contributing to cleaner air that we all breathe, but you will also be paying significantly less for a lot more towing capacity.

It means that you do not have to make sacrifices to do the things you love, like moving your boat or traveling the back roads of America with your travel trailer in tow. For businesses, it means less overhead spent on fuel.

The Ram 1500 Eco Diesel is truly an investment in the future for your family, and everyone else’s, as well.

So come by or contact us at Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy to learn more about the powerful, fuel-efficient, and clean-burning new Ram 1500 Eco Diesel today.

Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy – Summer and cars: auto fluid levels

Oil Change

Summer months bring with them the good times – barbecues with friends, days at the beach, and road trips. Road trips can bring on special stresses (and no, not so much for you), for your vehicle’s fluid levels.

A vehicle fully loaded with people, recreational equipment, coolers and pets is under heavy load and it can put strain on your ride, particularly if you’re blasting the air conditioning and sitting in traffic. For this reason, it’s important to make sure your vehicle’s fluids are topped off and lubricants are fresh.

Start by checking the engine oil when the vehicle has not been operated for at least fifteen minutes, which ensures all the oil will have drained back to the oil pan. Pull out the dip stick (when the vehicle is off), wipe the oil off of it with a rag or paper towel, reinsert, remove again, and see where the level is.

On most cars, the mark between “add” and “full” is one quart. If it’s somewhere in between, we recommend topping off with the appropriate grade and quality of oil so it reaches the “full” mark. Check your owner’s manual if you are unsure of what kind of oil to use. We recommend keeping a fresh, sealed, quart of oil in the vehicle for unplanned top-offs.

Another easy thing to check and fill is your washer fluid. Open the hood, identify the washer fluid intake, and fill to the brim with an appropriate fluid. Most reservoirs hold about a gallon. If you have room in your vehicle for a spare gallon of washer fluid, you may find it convenient to have it on hand for refills.

Other fluids to consider are: automatic or manual transmission fluid, differential fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and, of course, coolant, which works extra hard during the summer. Most of these require the care of a skilled technician to check the levels and quality, so be sure to have them checked by your service technician regularly.

If you’re unsure of the level and condition of your car’s fluids, come on in to Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy for a full fluid analysis and top off. Our service department can be reached at 888-313-1770. To learn more, visit our website. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer, and look forward to seeing you soon.

Dodge Avenger is the Fastest Growing Vehicle in its Class

2013-Dodge-Avenger-Blacktop-front-three-quarters-view-3-1024x640

When we say the 2013 Dodge Avenger is a popular vehicle, we mean really popular. The sleek, sporty car is the fastest growing vehicle in its mid-size class. Here at Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy we carry the popular vehicle.

2013 year-to-date sales

The figures speak for themselves. The Dodge Avenger climbed in production by 59.9 percent in June 2013 as compared to June 2012. Chrysler production for 2013, as of the end of June, was 69,311 for the Avenger. That is already 30 percent higher than the numbers for June 2012. No wonder WardsAuto recently named the 2013 Avenger the fastest growing vehicle in its class.

Reasons for the growth

The 2013 Dodge Avenger outsells its competition for good reason. Not only does it have 283 horsepower, but its fuel economy is unbeatable. The V6 engine offers impressive fuel-efficiency at 19 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.

Along with great fuel efficiency, you get awesome performance behind the wheel of the Avenger. Enjoy a finely tuned suspension that has peak power and torque while also having a smooth idle and consistent low-speed operation.

The Avenger has also earned the title of 2013 Top Safety Pick as named by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Safety features in the car include six airbags, electronic stability control and an advanced antilock brake system. The car even gives the driver the option to monitor tire pressure with a convenient dashboard read-out.

Sporty exterior

Aside from being great on gas and giving you power behind the driver’s seat, the 2013 Dodge Avenger also has a great, sporty look. It has a bold split-crosshair grille, 18-inch aluminum wheels, dual chrome exhaust tips and more.

Take a look at the 2013 Dodge Avenger  in person at our Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy dealership. We offer a selection of Avenger models, and our friendly staff is happy to answer your inquiries.

2013 Customized Chrysler Draw Awards Illustrate the Quality of Mopar Parts

Chrysler Mopar

Highlights from the 2013 customized draw awards held by Chrysler illustrate that Mopar parts and accessories, which we at Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy use, are top-notch. The awards, begun in July, spotlight classic, or modern-day cars customized and restored by their owners with Mopar parts in exceptional ways.

Award Highlights

Chrysler’s Customized and Performance Vehicle Program recently selected “Top Eliminator” winners. Miles Watsko took the first prize with his 1964 Plymouth Savoy. His restored car won the first “Top Eliminator” award at the “Mopars in the Park” event July 9 in Farmington, Minn.

The judging panel selected Watsko based on criteria that relate to the program’s goal to modify or preserve Mopar vehicles. The criteria include Mopar content and overall appearance of a vehicle, according to a recent Chrysler post. Watsko’s Savoy is a classic muscle car that features the 426 HEMI race engine. Interestingly, the 1964 Savoy was the first car that Mopar gave that engine type.

Additional winners’ selections occur at Carlisle Chrysler Nationals, the Indianapolis NHRA US Nationals, and online; the total number of award recipients, counting Watsko, is four.

How We Use Mopar to Help You

At our Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy dealership, we use the high-quality Mopar parts that are vital to the award-winning vehicles. That means that any time you come in for a servicing and need parts replaced or added, you can expect to receive durable Mopar parts, which enhance handling of your vehicle, and excellent customer service.

Mopar has an excellent reputation in the automobile industry, built up over 75 years. The genuine parts and accessories distribute to over 130 markets worldwide and are the go-to for Chrysler Group brands. Mopar has introduced many features into the auto industry, such as Wi-Fi and wireless charging for cars.

Whether you are looking for a new or used car, or need a service repair, we, at Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy, are here to help you. Our dealership is open Monday through Saturday; come see us in person or give us a call today.

Suburban salutes Clawson Farmers Market

Clawson, MI

At Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy, summer means heading outdoors and taking advantage of nature’s bounty. There’s no better place to do that than at Clawson Farmers Market. Just head south on I-75, and head to Clawson City Park at the corner of West Elmwood and North Custer avenues.

This seasonal open-air market features fresh fruits and vegetables —along with plenty of inspiration for your summer meals and barbecues. It’s open Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from July 14 through September 29 (Closed Labor Day weekend).

As you walk the park, you’ll find vendors from all around the Metro Detroit area. It’s the best time ever to patronize local Michigan farmers and area businesses. Here in Michigan, we know better than anyone else why buying USA is the best — and buying Michigan is even better!

Beyond all the yummy locally grown produce, keep your eyes open for McClure’s Pickles, breads, jams, honey, other organic products, gourmet coffees and even some crafts. If you’ve never been to a farmers market before, we’ve tracked down some tips on how to make the most of your farmers market shopping, such as:

  • Go early or go late. Early, you’ll have the most choices. Late, you’ll get the best bargains on whatever is left.
  • Bring bags. Vendors often have thin plastic bags, but if you bring your own, you’ll cut down on plastic pollution, and/or you’ll have a carry-all to make multiple purchases easier.
  • Bring $1 and $5 bills. Farmers market participants tend to be small vendors, not big corporations. Make life easier for everyone by carrying small bills and not asking them to break twenties or fifties, or even tens, if you’re not buying a lot.
  • Learn how to store, clean and cook what you buy. You can scour the Internet for ideas when you get home, but it’s best to ask the vendor while you’re buying.

Whether you get your produce from Clawson or another Michigan farmers market, it helps to know what to do with it once you get it home. You can head to Eating Well magazine for some terrific ideas.

Some Sundays, you’ll find live entertainment and kids’ activities at Clawson Farmers Market. You may be able to get advance information by checking out the Clawson Farmers Market Facebook page for interesting event and food details.

You can also peek at the City of Clawson Facebook page to see what else you can do while you’re in town. Before or after you hit Clawson, why not come in to Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy and take a look at a Chrysler Limited Convertible, a Dodge Dart, and Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ram Quad Cab or any of our amazing vehicles? They’re all roomy enough to bring home your farmers market bounty!
